John T. Wei, MD, MS

Assistant Professor of Urology

Dr. Wei was promoted to Assistant Professor in July of 1999 after spending 2 years as a Lecturer and a Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholar in the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Michigan. He completed his Urology training at the New York Hospital - Cornell Medical Center and is an alumnus of Northwestern University where he graduated from the Honors Program in Medical Education 6-year BS-MD program.

As a board-certified General Urologist, Dr. Wei cares for patients with conditions related to the urinary and male reproductive tracts. His practice includes patients with BPH, stone disease, urinary incontinence, impotence, infertility, cancers of the prostate, bladder, and kidney and other general urologic problems. He has clinical appointments from the Departments of Urology at the Ann Arbor Veterans Administration Medical Center and the University of Michigan. He sees patients at the University of Michigan Center for Specialty Care in Livonia,.

Dr. Wei's research work involves Urologic Health Services Research and has been recognized by the American Foundation for Urologic Diseases.  Other areas of current research include urinary incontinence following radical prostatectomy, evaluation of clinical practice guidelines, quality of life for patients with urologic conditions, racial disparity in prostate cancer, cost-effectiveness and evaluating the utility of PSA screening. He is also the lead investigator for the Michigan Cancer Consortium's current initiative on prostate cancer, which aims to measure patients' knowledge and understanding of prostate cancer, treatment options, side effects and quality of life issues.
