Richard P. Dorr, M.D.
Clinical Associate Professor of Urology
Dr. Richard Dorr joined the staff at the University
of Michigan Medical Center on January 1, 2001 to practice general
Dr. Dorr received his M.D.
degree from the University of Michigan Medical School in 1961. He received his general surgical training at Wayne
County General Hospital and completed the urology residency program at the University of Michigan
Medical Center in 1968. Upon the completion of his residency, Dr. Dorr joined the staff at St. Joseph Mercy
Hospital. Over time, Dr. Dorr developed expertise in the treatment of both benign and malignant diseases of the prostate, as well as other
genitourinary malignancies. In 1985, he received post specialty training in
Pediatric and Reconstructive Urology at Eastern Virginia Medical College in
North Folk, Virginia.
Throughout his career, Dr.
Dorr has maintained an active interest in
teaching. He was first appointed to the clinical faculty at the University of Michigan
Medical Center in 1968 as a clinical instructor. He taught many medical
students, general surgery residents, and urology residents as they rotated
through St. Joseph Mercy Hospital. Dr. Dorr subsequently attained the academic rank of
Clinical Associate Professor.
In addition to his
long-standing associations with St. Joseph Mercy Hospital and the University
of Michigan, Dr. Dorr also served as an interim head of the urology service at the
Ann Arbor Veterans Administration Hospital for a period of two years and remained
there as a consultant for
a number of years afterwards.
